I just couldn't wait to post and share this activity that I made this week. I can't wait to try it out with my kiddos next year! (and am wishing I had some class pics to give you a better idea of what it's all about!!!)
I came upon this blog off of pinterest the other day about wearing words on the heads and having kids walk around and match the name of the student with the word they were wearing. I'm not sure if this was the original person with the idea or not but wanted to give credit to that person for inspiring me!!!! Check out this blog post that has some pics of her little kinders walking around finding words.
Then came the spark! I gave the activity the name "Math Bands" (which totally took me back to Saved By the Bell and the Buddy Bands they were selling in the one episode-if you know what I'm talking about!) What it is is an activity where students will wear number sentences on sentence strips or even just tape it on their shirts in a visible place. They will be given a worksheet with student names on the left and numbers on the right. They will get up and walk around to each person. They will figure out their answer and draw a line from the name of that student to the answer it makes! Such a simple idea-but I KNOW my kids will love it! (PS---I've already started working on other math concepts that I'll share later. I'm thinking that we'll do this maybe once a month or as a chapter review?!?! I'll know for sure once I know my class and what they are like!!!!)

For those of you who have purchased things from me for math, I will be making games for October, November and December. I'm taking a little break to enjoy my little guys, but will be working on them and will hope to have them up by August-September (at least for October, that is). I am also planning on adding this above game into the different packets that I've made already---using some extra "cute" little graphics. (The main reason I am doing it is so that I'm actually PREPARED to do it monthly, and not running around last minute trying to get it all ready!)

I need some help. Many times I click on the freebie & am taken to a Google Drive site. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIt should take you to google docs where you'll see the document in a PDF format. You'll go to file and then click download.
DeleteHope that helped! :)
Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAngie,
ReplyDeleteI like your math bands idea. I can't wait to try it. With math in the afternoon, I need all the help I can get to keep their interest and not zone out on me. This seems like a win-win activity. Thanks so much for sharing. I'll be checking back on your other activities.

Ugh! I remember when our schedule had us teaching math at the end of the day! Hopefully this will help keep them moving! I love coming up with ideas to get them up out of their seats. I find they do better IN their seats afterwards as well!!!! :)
DeleteThanks for sharing. I think this will be really fun for the kids.
